Undergrounding of Overhead Utilities
Pebble Beach is located on the Monterey Peninsula within the Del Monte Forest, where overhead utility lines are susceptible to falling trees and increased wildfire risk. To mitigate these growing reliability and safety concerns, the Pebble Beach Community Services District (PBCSD) has been engaged in planning and implementing a long-term undergrounding program since 2010. In 2014, they retained Wallace Group to support the programs implementation. Wallace Group worked closely with PG&E and PBCSD to establish a multi-phased approach that undergrounds much of the mainline overhead infrastructure within the Pebble Beach Community, and provided the project management, design, and construction management services necessary to see it through. Between 2014 and 2024, nearly 6 miles have been completed, over 3 phases, with another 3.6 miles on the horizon for phase 4. What began as a daunting and slow-moving project has gained momentum due to the strong relationships and support among all stakeholders. Wallace Group is excited to be part of this important initiative to create a more resilient community!
