Recycled Water & Conveyance Project Construction Management & Inspection
The City of Soledad’s Phase III Recycled Water Conveyance Project will replace over 165 acre-feet per year of potable water with recycled water. The phase includes building a city-wide distribution system with a new pump station, the installation of new recycled water mains, upgraded pipelines, swivel well connections, booster pumps, and the conversion of existing irrigation systems.
The project also involves the replacement of approximately 1,300 feet of aging clay sanitary sewer along Main Street with new 8-inch SDR-26 PVC pipe, installed along the existing alignment to minimize utility conflicts and streamline construction. Temporary sewer bypassing will be required during installation, with reconnection to the gravity system expected at the end of each work shift. Sewer laterals will be reconnected, and a detailed contractor work plan, including bypass operations, is required.
Over 20 existing park and school irrigation systems across the City of Soledad will connect to this new recycled water distribution system. To facilitate this update, new service connections will be made with irrigation components that are recycled water-compatible, as denoted by visible indicators such as purple valve boxes and informational signage. Work at school sites must be completed during summer, or within restricted hours approved by the school district. Additionally, a new pump station will be constructed at the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF), featuring a cast-in-place wet well, booster pumps, and hydropneumatic tanks. Dewatering, embankment construction, and installation of new ductile iron piping with cathodic protection will also be completed. Electrical upgrades and communication conduits will support the new system, which will undergo startup, testing, and commissioning with City staff and design team oversight. Since these improvements occur around routes that are major thoroughfares, and at local parks and schools, advance notice, and detailed traffic control will be provided by the Wallace Group team.
