Pismo Preserve

Pismo Beach, CA

Project Description:

The Pismo Preserve is a project where the science of engineering blended with the art of landscape architecture, creating a hiking and wildlife preserve community resource like no other on the Central Coast. Wallace Group helped the Land Conservancy and various other stakeholders to envision a sustainable trail system, parking area, and branding for the preserve. In addition to the trail system, Wallace Group designed, engineered, and managed the multiple-agency approval process for entrance improvements, utility services, parking lot, restroom facilities, picnic areas, and ADA-Compliant site features. The Pismo Preserve offers truly exceptional and diverse recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors enjoy over 11 miles of existing ranch roads and trails that meander throughout the property offering ready-to-use routes ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. These trails traverse serene oak woodlands and coastal ridgelines with stunning panoramic vistas of the Pacific Ocean stretching from the Irish Hills to Point Sal, located just off California’s scenic Highway 101. The property is approximately 880 acres and is owned by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo. This large acre parcel is arguably the most important land acquisition for outdoor public enjoyment on the Central Coast and will be a lasting legacy for future generations. Our team designed safety improvements to the entry off Mattie Road and, as a follow-up, worked with the City of Pismo Beach to provide sidewalk access from the coastal side of US 101. Wallace Group is proud to have been a part of the Land Conservancy team to deliver this legacy facility for all to enjoy.
