Fort Ord Blight Removal & Inspection
Wallace Group performed overall project management, design, and construction management and inspection services for the City of Marina - 2022 Blight Removal project. This project included hazardous materials abatement and demolition of abandoned barracks and buildings at two sites at the former Fort Ord Army Base. At the City Park location, 45 buildings were abated and demolished and 30 duplex buildings at the Cypress Knoll site. Both project sites included contaminated soil haul off due to documented lead and asbestos contamination, site debris removal, the disconnection and abandonment of existing utilities, and site restoration and stabilization.
Wallace Group's Construction Management Team provided extensive coordination with environmental sub-consultants, who assisted with the contaminated soil disposal plan, confirmation testing, and material haul off tracking. Work also included lead and asbestos abatement of select elements on the existing buildings such as floor tiles, mastic, roof shingles, and lead paint. Our team performed SWPP storm water inspections and sampling, and coordinated multiple regulatory site visits with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and Monterey Bay Air Resources Board (MBARD). Overall, the two project sites were successfully abated, cleaned, and are ready for their redevelopment into future commercial space, residential housing, and a future city park.
