Octagon Barn, Roadway Widening and Onsite Improvements
Project Description:
The Octagon Barn is a distinctive landmark just outside the City limits of San Luis Obispo, owned and managed by the Land Conservancy. Wallace Group led the design team to help the Land Conservancy establish this landmark as a community destination and event center. The project included both off-site transportation improvements along South Higuera Street and onsite parking facilities and event center site design. We worked with multiple stakeholders to bring water and electrical utilities onsite as well as establish lease terms for a portion of the property owned by Caltrans. A retention basin was designed to include both drainage and wetland features. Wallace Group designed the left turn lane and widening of South Higuera Street, including the relocation of utilities, to accommodate a projected increase in turning volumes into the event site. The services Wallace Group provided support the effort to turn the Barn site into a landmark venue and gathering space that will soon provide a new trailhead for the Bob Jones City-to-Sea Trail and a hub for three regional bicycle routes.
