Golden Hill Road/Union Road Roundabout

Paso Robles, CA

Paso Robles faced a unique problem – a regularly congested intersection causing frustration among drivers. While a single roundabout could alleviate the issue, it would necessitate extensive private land acquisition. The Wallace Group team conducted a thorough analysis of the intersection's traffic operations and created visual simulations of the proposed changes.

Their ingenious solution? The introduction of an innovative "dog bone" shaped single-lane roundabout, one of the pioneering designs in California. Construction commenced in the summer of 2022, and with great fanfare, the road opened in June 2023. Notably, the roundabout was meticulously designed to accommodate a range of vehicles, including late adjustments to accommodate a 107' truck and trailer with a 4.5" vertical clearance.
