Senior Transportation Design Engineer

Location: San Luis Obispo

Duties: Leading project design teams in the preparation of the development of the planning and design of transportation projects on local roadways and state highways. Projects include multiple roundabout corridors, interchange reconstruction projects, new Class I bike paths connecting neighboring communities, and other transportation focused projects throughout the central coast of California. The individual will be responsible for the preparation of design concepts, plans, reports, specifications, estimates and construction documents; interaction, coordination of team members, clients, agency staff, and other disciplines in the production of above. You will have the opportunity to manage contracts and budgets; and supervise and train design and production staff.

Specific Experience: We are looking for highly motivated and skilled engineers with experience with the preparation of reports, plans, quantities and estimates using Caltrans standards. Our design work utilizes the Highway Design Manual, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Highway Safety Manual and AASHTO Greenbook, as well as appropriate local standards. Experience in the production of project specifications and with coordination of environmental and other disciplines for project delivery is a plus.

The candidate should demonstrate strong project management skills including scope, budget and scheduling control, strong project delivery experience including managing teams and consultants, meeting quality deliverable expectations, and experience with preparation of proposals / RFP’s / SOQ’s including scope and budget, exhibits for interviews and participation in interviews, and meeting with current and potential clients.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field, California professional registration, minimum of nine years of qualifying transportation design engineering experience, and demonstrate proficiency in Civil 3D.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit at a desk and use computer with related tools for an average 8 hour work shift. Vision to independently view computer screen or printed materials and graphics. Possess mobility to stand or walk on job site for up to 4 hours. Ability to operate motor vehicle. Hearing and speech skills to effectively communicate in English in person and over the telephone.
