December 2009

  • Wallace Group Landscape Architect Bianca Koenig has been selected for Tribune's Annual Top 20 Under 40 Award. In its fifth year, the award honors county residents under the age of 40 who have demonstrated excellence in their field and a strong commitment to community service. The winners will be recognized for their accomplishments at a special lunch in January at the Madonna Inn.
  • The new Hollister Bridge over Chorro Creek at Cuesta College is now opened. Wallace Group provided civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying services on the project.

November 2009

  • Wallace Group hosted a Business Social for the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa on Thursday, November 12.

August 2009

  • The Wallace Group Charitable Contributions Committee is sponsoring a MATCHING DOLLARS FUND DRIVE for the SLO Food Bank. The Committee will match dollar for dollar those donated by employees. Every dollar we give to the Food Bank purchases 7 meals!
  • Wallace Group welcomes Nicole Smith to our Civil and Planning Divisions as an Associate Planner.

July 2009

  • July 15th marked Wallace Group's 25th Anniversary.
  • Wallace Group participated in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life. This is the third year that Wallace Group has raised funds for the cause and had a team participate in the relay. The relay took place at Laguna Middle School in San Luis Obispo on July 18-19. Wallace Group and its employees raised over $2000. Wallace Group team members included: Rachel Arnold; Lori Trowbridge; Craig Campbell; Aaron Yonker; Brooke Bayne; Michael Borger; Ralph Schell; Sharon Seitz; Eileen Stephens; Debra Tumler; and Ann Whitehead as well as numerous family members and friends.
  • Congrats to Craig Campbell, Brad Brechwald, and John Wallace who completed a half mile swim, 15.3 miles bike ride and 3.1 mile run in the 30th Annual SLO Triathlon.
  • The ASCE SLO Branch announced their 2009 Award winners and a Wallace Group Engineer and projects we worked on were on the list:
    Outstanding Practitioner Advisor: Kari Wagner, PE of Wallace Group
    Outstanding Sustainability Project: Poly Canyon Village – Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA
    Outstanding Architectural Engineering Project: Santa Maria Library, Santa Maria, CA
  • The Trilogy Central Cost Monarch Club at The Woodlands located in Nipomo, CA was award the 2009 Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) Gold Nugget Grand Award for Outstanding Public/Private Recreational Use Facility.
  • Wallace Group’s own Bianca Koenig from our Landscape Architecture Division was published in the July 2009 issue of Landscape Architect and Specified News. Her article, Where the Monarch Butterflies Winter, discussed the award winning Trilogy Central Cost Monarch Club at The Woodlands located in Nipomo, CA.

June 2009

  • Wallace Group will have a booth at WaterFest 2009 at the Rock in Morro Bay on June 20th. Our focus will be on rainwater harvesting. For more information about the event, please visit http://www.slowaterfest.org/.
  • Wallace Group welcomes Valerie Dawe, Water Resource Engineer and Professional Engineer, to the Water Resources Division. She will be a welcome addition to our Division and to the company overall. 

May 2009

  • Engineers Without Borders will be hosting their first fundraiser on Saturday, May 30th from 2 – 6 PM at the Clubhouse on Foothill in SLO to support the student and professional efforts. There will be live music featuring our own Doug Groshart (from Mechanical Engineering) and The JD Project, silent auction, beer and wine tasting, appetizers, and desserts from a variety of local eateries.
  • Ken Hall, Pat Stanhope, Brad Brechwald, and Don Oldt participated in 18 holes of golf for the APWA Golf Tournament at the Blacklake Golf Resort in Nipomo on May 8th.

April 2009

  • Wallace Group welcomes Andrew Etteddgue as a new volunteer. Andrew is a senior at Arroyo Grande High School and as part of his ROP program; he is volunteering to do some work for us this quarter. He will be helping Ralph Schell (Senior Civil Designer) in Civil doing basic CAD operations, electronic and paper file management as well as fill-in work on projects and CAD Standards files.
  • Steve Tanaka (Director of Water Resources) presented at the ASCE San Luis Obispo Branch meeting at Dairy Creek. The topic was entitled, “Our Water, Our Future.” The presentation focused on global, national, state-wide and local water issues, and the importance of water recycling and water conservation to secure our future water needs. The presentation also provided overviews of two large-scale water recycling projects recently presented at Water Reuse Association Conferences, including agricultural reuse at the Monterey Regional Wastewater Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA) facility in Monterey County, and the Orange County Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) project for indirect potable water reuse in Southern California.
  • Representatives from Wallace Group attended the Earth Day Food & Wine Festival at the historic Santa Margarita Ranch on April 18th. The Earth Day Food & Wine Festival is a benefit event to support farm worker outreach and sustainable ag research conducted by the Central Coast Vineyard Team.
  • The Railroad Safety Trail Bicycle Path, Phase 4 is being dedicated on April 30th between Hathway and Foothill Boulevard in San Luis Obispo. Wallace Group provided Civil Engineering and Landscape Architecture services to this project.

March 2009

  • Wallace Group has opened a branch office in Bakersfield.
  • Tara Stilwell joined our Construction Management Division as a Project Analyst. She joins us from Fluid Resource Management (FRM).
  • Wallace Group played a major role in the design and construction process for the 26-acre Orcutt Community Park, which held its Grand Opening on Saturday, March 28, 2009. Our firm was responsible for the landscape and recreation design, civil engineering, surveying and construction management for this $10 million project that developer Rice Ranch Ventures built for Northern Santa Barbara County. This is the first new regional park in many years and provides baseball fields, soccer field, dog parks, playgrounds, picnic facilities, and trails in a very scenic and harmonious setting.
  • Heather Billing joined our Public Works Administration Division as a Senior Engineer.

January 2009

  • Wallace Group is celebrating 25 years in business.
