INDUSTRIAL PRETREATMENT PROGRAM
Wallace Group has experience developing Source Control Programs designed to identify and prevent industrial discharges into the sanitary sewer system. We work with commercial and industrial companies to refine their pretreatment process. Once enrolled in our Pretreatment Program, these companies coordinate wastewater samples for analysis. These lab results are reviewed for compliance with local discharge limits. If there are high levels of constituents, we assist in determining the source and implement a new course of action to ensure compliance.
The Pretreatment Program for Industrial Dischargers is intended to help decrease the amount of toxic pollutants entering the sewer. Businesses that release wastewater into our sewers must meet strict regulations that keep toxic pollutants out of the sewer.
Pretreatment is an integral component of the Federal NPDES permit program to protect the waters of the State. Pretreatment is any biological, chemical, or physical treatment process applied to an industrial wastewater stream before it is mingled with sanitary wastewater and/or released into a sanitary sewer collection system for ultimate treatment at a POTW, (publicly-owned treatment works).
Pretreatment protects:
- Infrastructure investment (i.e., treatment plant and collection system pipes, pumps, valves and other appurtenances) from physical damage (i.e., corrosion from low pH)
- The Operation & Maintenance (O&M) workers health and safety
- The wastewater treatment plant operation process from upset, interference, and/or pass-through
- The quality of the biosolids/sewage sludge produced by the wastewater treatment plant to meet the standards for beneficial reuse
- Our Source Control Inspectors monitor the results of testing to determine any potential violations of sewer ordinances by businesses
